Ever since I was a sophomore in high school and began to consistently attend weekly Young Life clubs I have always thought about volunteering as a leader when I got out of college. I dreamed about dressing up in wild costumes to break down the walls of insecure adolescents, or leading the song, “Party in the U.S.A.” till my face turned blue and my manly self respect was gone. Sharing my story to dozens of loud mouthed teens, knowing that half of their school would know about my mistakes within a week. Being able to connect on a spiritual level with kids, who just like me, were looking for something more in life, and giving them that is something that I have craved. Wanting all of these things with my life is how I know that I am called to serve the Lord by serving others, and more specifically, young people. Your mass media tools that I have been following for the past several weeks have really opened my eyes to what I’ve been needing in my life.

Although having been a part of several of the many sides of Young Life, (Younglifer, camper, work crew volunteer) I can say that while reading the blog posts and tweets from you guys, I have learned so much. Specifically regarding the strategies of running a fun and successful club, outreach to kids, and problems that you face from either the kids, parents, or community. The information your blogs provide really gave me a good look at all you do and work towards. One of my favorite or most insightful posts I read is called, “Sticky Situations”. This posts described either hypothetical scenarios that could occur while being a leader, or real events that have happened to you guys. Reading this got me thing thinking about the struggles of this fun loving position. I never really got to see that side of being a leader. That side may not look as fun, but it shows that this job is real, not just a fantasy job. The posts really show what you guys have to do, and I cannot wait!

The areas that were most interesting and beneficial that I found are the posts regarding the club. There is a specific area for that is dedicated to how to run a fun club, have a specific theme, and even what music is good to play. In high school, I actually looked forward to Monday nights for the sole purpose of going to club. I was alway super bummed out when my water polo games or swim meets would get in the way. They were always tied together so well, from the songs connecting to the talk, the skit working well with the club theme, or the holidays being incorporated into the mixer. Seeing how helpful and supportive you all are makes me feel good. It makes me feel that I will be accepted into your family.

The acceptance and kindness that you show on the blog is one of the main parts that I looked at in my research and wrote about. In other areas of the internet such as Youtube there is nothing but hate and profanity. It is a complete 180 on the Young Life Leader Blog. This is yet another reason that I am exited to become a leader. The absolute reason though is to lead kids to the Cross, just like I was in high school. I want to give back in any way I can.

In conclusion, I would simply like to say thank you! Thank you for having such a great set up of mass communication, thank you for educating and sharing your ideas with your peers on a friendly, welcoming site. But most of all, thank you for spending you free time volunteering to help show kids like me Jesus Christ. Your community changed my life, and I look forward to giving up mine to serve in the future.

Wrestling

Nice! That video was intense. I actually used to wrestle in middle school. I was 7 and 2…no big deal. Anywho, I liked the presentation, and my favorite part is was flowrestling site. Swimming actually has a floswimming site and so thats one reason I liked it. Great job, I hope you can eat your heart out till next season.

Fat Acceptance Movement and Social Media

ellielevy:

Ellie! It was an absolute pleasure to hear you talk about how we need to accept over weight people. The part that I thought was the most interesting is the part regarding BMI. The BMI is messed up. Did you know that Michael Jordan was obese according to BMI? Thats Bull! Great job Ellie!

My Storify!

Hey Aaron,

Nice job on the presentaion. I actually used to pole vault in high school. I thought that the coolest and most interesting part of your presentation was the fact that they all helped each other with technique and getting better. My question for you, is have you ever used this forum for the benefit of your vaulting?

Your topic is pretty sad, but I think that it’s cool the way that the cancer patient can communicate to friends and family. They can even keep in touch with one another and relate to what the others are going through. I think thats very cool. My question for you is how did you get interested in this topic?

DIII Swimming

Nice job Ben! I’m personally invested in this topic and I thought you did a great job presenting. I have one question for you. Nice job, I really enjoyed the topic and personally really enjoy hiking. The aspect of your presentation that suprised me the most, or that I found the most interesting is the “single hikers”. I thought that this is pretty funny, but sorta cool. Meeting on hikes to get to know someone.

Noetic Science

You we’re right! I liked how you showed lots of different ways that HP fandom has become huge! Such as Mugglenet, hypable, the youtube video, photos, ect. The part of your speech that I found most interesting is when you said that Harry Potter fans compare social issues in our world today. This is nuts! What are some of the issues that they bring up on the sites?

Computer Science: Anti-Social Media

Hey dude! I enjoyed listening to your talk and you were very confident and you could tell you knew what you were talking about.
